Equality Scholarship

We like to think that the Internet and its programming languages are made for everyone. But surround them with a powerful “web development industry” and the tools, technologies and education required to build the future of the web become a literal walled garden, inaccessible to many societal and economic minority groups.

Events like Front-Trends and the web development industry must be mindful to champion openness and inclusivity, so we’ve created the Equality Scholarship to give more people a chance to attend Front-Trends who would otherwise be unable.

Apply for Scholarship

The Equality Scholarship

The Equality Scholarship provides all-inclusive attendance and financial coverage to the Front-Trends conference, satellite events and Warsaw stay. Anyone from an underrepresented group in tech and those facing social and economic hardships may apply. Travel expense coverage, childcare, disabled resources, and/or lodging are provided if necessary.

Last Year’s Scholars and Sponsors of 2017

We were able to invite 4 scholars to participate in Front-Trends 2017, one international from the South Asian region, and three from Poland. Their travel and accommodation costs were covered from donations to the scholarship by Microsoft Edge and Mozilla teams. We can still do better. Contact [email protected] to find out how to support more scholars.

Eligibility and Requirements

The Equality Scholarship invites anyone to apply currently coming from low-income backgrounds, adverse life situations or underrepresented societal groups in tech. This includes, but is not limited to women, people of color, LGBTQ, single parents, disabled people, or citizens of totalitarian governments where Internet censorship, societal or economic hardships have prevented fair access to web development opportunity.

By applying for the Equality Scholarship at Front-Trends 2018, you acknowledge that without this scholarship you would not be able to afford attending the conference otherwise.

Scholarship Award Details

  • All access to Front-Trends 2018.
  • Up to four night's accommodation for those coming from outside of Warsaw for the duration of the conference, May 24-25.

Code of Conduct

Remember that we have a Code of Conduct that we believe in and enforce.

Child Care

Front-Trends partners with local day-care facilities and provides safe spaces for breastfeeding.

The Front-Trends venue is wheelchair accessible: main hall, catering, exhibition area, chill-out spaces and bathrooms are all accessible from street level. Elevators are operational to all additional spaces. The Front-Trends staff can provide a dedicated staff member to assist with mobility as well.

Visual and Hearing Assistance

Double-screens are present throughout the venue with one screen showing the presenter’s slides and the other displaying them live on stage. Front-Trends has speech-to-text translation services upon request. Guide dogs or assistive technologies are welcome.

Dietary Restrictions

Breakfast and lunch are served with ample vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free options. Alternative options are available upon request.

Sponsor a Scholarship

Individuals can contribute to the Equality Scholarship by sponsoring a portion of their ticket payment at registration. Companies can also fully sponsor an award by getting in touch with us at [email protected].

Each award from the money collected will go towards covering additional costs, for example, special needs support, travel fees, intercity transportation and lodging. If you support the scholarship program, you will be notified of how many awards Front-Trends was able to provide as a result of your generosity.
